We strive to ensure access for all to educational excellence in preparing children and young people for their futures, seeking to continually improve attainment and progress for all and secure the highest levels of achievement appropriate to the individual learner.
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Mental and Emotional Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
The Government provides some advice for parents and carers about Special Educational Needs and Disabilities which you can access here https://www.gov.uk/children-with-special-educational-needs

We are committed to ensuring that pupils with medical conditions are fully supported in school so that they can:
- Play a full and active role in school life;
- Access and enjoy the same opportunities at school as any other child, including school trips and physical education;
- Remain healthy and safe;
- Achieve their academic potential.
If a student has a medical need, they will have a Care Plan, which is compiled in consultation with parents and one of our medical assistants. The plan is discussed with all staff who are involved with the student and is added to the student’s profile, so staff can access it.
Staff receive regular medical training delivered by the school medical assistant and are aware of where they can access further information as required.
Where necessary and in agreement with parents, medicines are administered in school but only with signed parental consent and with medicines in the original packaging.
How does the SEND provision impact my child at school?
As a result of the provision provided. Children at Lift Beacon will:
- Make progress from their starting points
- Develop independence and skills to support them throughout life
- Show confidence and resilience
- Be able to work collaboratively with others
What provisions will my child have in school?
Pupils with SEND may:
- Have specific 1:1 or group support to support them accessing different areas of the curriculum
- Have interventions outside of the classroom
- Use additional resources and practical equipment to support their learning
- Take part in social, emotional and mental health interventions such as ELSA, Counselling and Boxall
- Receive additional support and recommendations from outside agencies such as the Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Autism Outreach Team, Specialist Teaching Service.
Which teachers provide SEND support?
At Lift Beacon, every teacher is a teacher of SEND. We strive to ensure that all pupils with SEND get the support they require.
Pupils with SEND will:
- Be included in all aspects of the school day
- Be provided with quality first teaching, adapted to meet their needs
- Have targets set and have regular reviews of their progress
What do we offer through our quality first teaching, planning and provision?
- We ensure that needs are identified as early as possible and support is put in place
- Ensure that children have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is appropriately differentiated to enable children to succeed
- Provide an accessible learning environment which is tailored to the needs of all pupils
- Develop children’s independence
- Regularly monitor the progress of children with SEND
- Work closely with parents and carers
- Work closely with external agencies and other professionals to ensure that there is a collaborative approach to support children with SEND
Will my child have access to the same activities as their peers?
We believe that every teacher is a teacher of every child, including those with SEND. We are highly dedicated in providing inclusion in every area of learning for all children. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) support is provision that is additional to, or different from, that generally made for others of the same age. This means provision goes beyond the differentiated approaches and learning arrangements routinely provided, as part of high quality, personalised teaching. It may take the form of additional support from within the Academy, or require the involvement of specialist staff or support services.
How is bullying addressed?
Our Anti-Bullying Policy ensures that all students have the right to feel safe and respected.
We take a firm and consistent approach to bullying, making it clear that it is not tolerated. Any concerns are taken seriously and dealt with in line with our policies and procedures.
